I have a 1998 suz dt150 that i moved from one boat to another. when i tried to start it the other day it started cranking over as usual then it acted like the batts started to die. they are 2 brand new wally world everstart maxx marine batts 845 cranking amps. i took batts out and put them on a charger, they said 90% so i charged em to 100% and hooked em up and same thing. i took the leads off of switch and hooked them directly to batt and still the same thing. all connections are clean. im lost. thank you for the help.

Is the starter getting hot to the touch? Clean all connections from battery to starter including negative.

it doesnt seem like its getting hot when i turn it then run back to touch it. it seems to spin ok for a couple secs then sounds like the batts are dieing.

Re: acting like dead batt?

I just changed a battery that had one cell go bad, voltage looked good but hydrometer showed the problem.
if you cannot check them yourself then take them to some one that can Just to make sure

ok so the marine elect guy says the motor seems tight. hard to spin w/plugs out. he feels it is a bearing or ring or something of that nature. does this mean the motor is junk? how much roughly are repairs like this? are they only doable by a suz dealer. im bummin any answers will help thanks again

Re: acting like dead batt?

i may have figured this out and was wondering if anyone would chime in with there .02. when this motor was first tried to start after the winter storage it was put on the flush attachment and then tried to start up. the starter spun the flywheel nice for a few and then it was like the batts were dieing. it has basically been like that since. i have been reading on the forums that you cant run the motor on the flush attachment. the motor seems tight. would a broken or bad impellor cause the motor to be tight. im thinking the impellor was basically dry when trying to start the first time and is now causing these probs since its a new starter and new charged batts. anyhelp..thanks guys and gals

I would do a voltage drop test to make sure you are getting the proper voltage to the starter.
May just be a bad battery cable or connection
