My winter hobby is snowmobiling and practically nobody wears the lanyard connected to the kill switch. I always clip it on my wife when she rides her sled. Of course when you let go the throttle it should stop eventually but clearly the impact broke something. That is a pretty new sled also so likely not rigged up like some older sleds.
