Actual horsepower 82 J140

Folks,<br /><br />Now I am curious, I have an 82' Johnson 140. The threads I have read and researched have suggested that the HP rating on this motor is at the crank? not at the prop? Is this the truth.<br /><br />I guess the motor is actually 130hp at the prop, is this basically correct.<br /><br />Just curious, looking for the metors of motors on this one.<br /><br />Thanks in advance.<br /><br />Safe boating to all.<br /><br />Cheers.<br /><br />emp.

Being conservitive it's about 115 at the prop. Is there something specific you are trying to do?<br /><br />Good luck!

Dhadley,<br /><br />Nothing specific at the moment, but some day I expect I will replace the motor and would not like to drop power. I am trying to save money, and it seems the lower the HP the lower the price. I would like my next motor to be brand new. My hull is rated for a 150, 1986 hull, but I am happy with the top end etc. I have now.<br /><br />Don't get me wrong the motor is in good shape (or at least it was before the boat rebuild, haven't rebuilt the motor) and gotten back out on the water yet.<br /><br />So if I go with a 115 I should see the same performance?<br /><br />I think I know whats comming, newer technology, better engineering, better prop technology, etc. When I do decide to replace the motor I am sure I will be up hear checking with you guys. As of 1997 they no longer make a V4 crossflow. The newer V4's (60 degree or 90 degree loopers) have much more torque. The 60 degree motors are very light and snappy. You will be impressed with everything about them.<br /><br />Good luck!
