Re: add tack

Be careful on the purple wire. It is not positive like positive to your batt. It is hot or positive only while engine is running.

Re: add tack

Looking to get the tach working on a 1974 Evinrude 70hp. Would this engine be wired in a similar way? Looks like the tach on this engine is wired to the control via two wires plus a ground and a wire for the light. The tach needle jumps slightly when the key is turned on but does not give a reading when running. I think it's just a power issues as the wiring that was once hooked to the battery is a rats nest and needs to be redone as nothing other then the engine works. I have not tested the charging system yet... Thanks

Re: add tack

As I was reading this over...a couple things. Envader get the guys here to..I wish I remembered the exact color. But on the older motors like you have..heck even mine which is a 1986...if you get a take..there are two wires reversed than what will show in the installation manual. Ask that question to make sure.

Also, very important. When installing your guages, disconnect the battery.
