Find the wires that come from your control at the helm and splice into them. You should have a red, green and blue. Don't try to go directly to the trim mtr as they come from relays in the t/t box.

you can not hook a switch up to the trim motor. you have to hook the switch up to the small wires going in to the trim relay box. locate the box its at the end of the wire from the trim motor (normally under cowling) then open the box and find the red-green-blue from the helm wiring. connect the new switch using a spdt non maintained switch with red common, blue top, green bottom then run wires to parallel the helm wires.

P.s us a water tight quality switch i learn that the hard way when the motor suddenly came up on its own

Re: Add Trim Switch to Transom?

By 1992, the 3 cylinder engines had that trim switch mounted in the lower cowling at the factory. The original factory part number 583803 supercedes to 585146. This is a waterproof trim switch that you could easily mount on the back of a pontoon, close to the engine-or even in the lower cowling. It's got the 3-colored leads that glenn refers to in his post.
