Adding a kicker to a 18' Starcraft SS

I am wondering how to add a kicker to an 18' Starcraft SS. Will it mount on the outboard mount or do I need to get a bracket.

Main motor for now is a 70 hp Johnson but will likely be replaced by an 81 115 Evinrude. The kicker is an 85 10hp Honda BF100 (love this motor).

Any pictures of how others have done this?

Does the kicker's length match the transom height? I mean, if the transom is 20" is the kicker a long shaft model?

Also, if the main motor is mounted on a cutaway transom, the rest of the transom will probably be too high.

In either of those cases, if mounting the kicker on the transom directly doesn't put enough of the kicker in the water, a bracket is the easy way to go. Besides, you'll want the kicker out of the water unless you're using it and one of the spring-loaded kicker brackets makes that easy.

It would help if we had a photo of your boat's transom, from the rear.

OK. I ran down the photo of this boat on your other thread. That wierd, curved cutaway isn't going to let you mount the kicker on it and still be able to use it. It'll be too close to the main outboard.

Looks like a spring-loaded kicker mount will be the ticket, unless you're planning to redesign the transom when you replace it.

That's a really deep cutaway you have on that boat, for sure. If you're replacing the transom, as you mentioned in the other thread, you might want to consider getting a long shaft outboard and making the cutaway a bit higher and wide enough for your kicker.

Thanks.

Yeah a link to a picture would have helped.

Going to see how it performs with the current set up for the main motor. But I do think a bracket is in the future.
