As the tittle says Iam adding a pump. I think I have the pluming figured out for it from searching on here, its going on a Regal 2465. I plan on puting a Y valve on the pumpout hose piped to the macerator then up to a vented loop and down to the thru hull. So the question is what type of thru hull do i need? Cant seem to find much info on that part.

Re: Adding a macerator pump

A standard brass/bronze 1.5" thru hull fitting with an attached brass/bronze 1/4 turn gate valve is fine (same as the other thru hull fittings. Make sure it's bedded in with 5200 and allowed to cure.

According to CG inspections, there needs to be a way to secure the valve in the closed position when not in use. I bedded a piece of starboard to the hull and it has a SS eyelet in it. The a tiewrap thru the eyelet and around the handle.

Fireman has it right.

I assume your cutting the hole in the hull for this and not using an existing one? If that's the case, your going to want to fiberglass a mounting block in there, to secure the thru hill to. Not difficult to do, but I'd be very sure to seal it up well.

Re: Adding a macerator pump

When I think macerator, I think sanitary sewage or fishbox pumpout. My fishbox pumpout has no intake (my live well / raw water wash down does have an intake), and exits through the side of the boat wel above the water line. If it is only for a fish box, you might want to mount the through hull above the waterline (same level as bilge pump discharge?).

Not sure what the y-valve will do unless it is to divert from pumping sewage overboard or instead to a holding tank. In that case, the macerator would only have a discharge overboard.

Ok now I'm confused lol! What are you doing with the macerator?

Re: Adding a macerator pump

Usually a macerator with a Y valve is to direct the flow of waste materials from the sanitary holding tank to either A) the deck mounted waste cap, or B) to the thru hull fitting for water discharge when you're greater than 3 miles from any coastline.

For the deck pumpout, it would go directly from the tank, thru the Y valve in position 1, to the pumpout cap.
For the thru hull, it would go from the tank, thru the Y valve in position 2, thru the macerator, thru the underwater hull fitting.

P.S....don't chew your fingernails while getting this set up

Perfect thanks and thats a negative on the nail chewing!!! Just got to try and get the tank pumped out and flushed.

Re: Adding a macerator pump

Good advice here.

But, uhmmmm, vented looo? Seem like that's going to be a bit stinky.

When you have an above the waterline, you use a vented loop in case the bost heals over and submerges the thriugh hull. In the bow the water line thru hull, the valve is only opened when it is to be used. Otherwise, keep it closed (CG will "appreciate" that). I am assuming, of course, that your macerator is above the water line.

The Cruisers 2870 I had came from the factory plumbed this way. No vented loop. Think of the materis going thru this hose.

Sorry for all the typos above. The editor on this Droid phone has lots of bugs and makes it difficult to make changes.

Re: Adding a macerator pump

The tank better have a vent, otherwise the plastic tank will collapse on itself when being pumped out. There shouldn't be an odor if a vent filter is installed.

So no vented loop? I looked at a digram from jabsco and all there pluming diagrams have a vented loop installed for below water line thru hulls. Iam assuming the tank is vented. Wouldent it have to be? I am new to all of this so I am learing as i go.

Re: Adding a macerator pump

Of course the tank has a vent and it should go through a charcoal filter to an ABOVE THE WATER LINE thru hull.

If you are going to pump poop you don't want it squirting out of a vented loop and and you don't want the odor to continually seep out of the loop. Not on my boat.

I had a Cruisers 2870 (bought new) and it came from the factory with 3 below water line thru hulls (Generator, A/C, and macerator. All valves closed if the operator wished when not in use. All using devices were above the water line. No vented loops in any of these.

The purpose of vented loops is in case an above the water line thru hull goes below the water line when the boat heals over. In the case of below the water line thru hulls, the water line doesn't change very much, and if it does, the boat is sinking.
