adding hr meter

i have a 5.7lx 350 merc. i want to add an hr meter in the engine compartment. do i just tap into the purple ignition wire or what? please advise.

WWYC na7. they have hr meters that they sale that you just wrap the wire coming off of the meter around the #1 cylinder.<br /> nickster

The purple wire is for the light. You can branch off from that to pos. Make sure it's grounded.

if you have a separate light switch it won't be accurate. Then you have to feed it with a direct positive line that comes on with the inigtion.

does anyone know off hand witch wire will work in the eng. compt. if not i will put it at the helm.

Go for the ign switch at the helm Isolate the termial by turn switch to the on position and use a Volt meter to find it. Don't start the engine. You will have one terminal that stays hot all the time dont't use that one.
