I have a CMC130 PT&T on my Johnny 48.

It is severely ugly, and worth a few bux on ebay.

I notice that OMC PT&T units on ebay are a lot less than CMC130s.

Can I buy a (three wire) OMC unit and install it on my 48? How hard is it to do? Should I get a shop to do it for me?

Maybe I can sell the CMC130 for enough to put OEM PT&T on her and replace my beat up controller, too. :)

Hi JB, I understand. Your 87 should have a midhousing capable of taking an OEM T&T. If you have access to the microfiche, just look up the part numbers, and match it to the ebay items. Otherwise, I am sure that someone else on this great site will jump at the opertunity to help. I have a CMC unit on my '76 70hp RUDE because the midhousing is not compatible with OEM T&T, It works great, and I put the relays under the hood and use a standard T&T control box so it doesn't look to kludged up, but it does make for strange bends in my steering cable. I would have looked up the numbers for you, but I am in the shop from THUR thru SUN so not there now. It really isn't too hard to install if your midhousing is correct, but you will have to split the bracket to install it(I think anyways).

JB,

The 48 was availble as a "50" with TNT and many SPL's were fitted with OEM TNT's.

To my knowledge, you do have to lift the engine off and split the bracket, as mentioned.
