high , i have to rebuild my floor and transom in my 1960 glasspar 16 footer runabout... and would like to add some features. one of wich is a "self bailing cockpit"... i know there are 5 trillion definitions of this, but can i add scuppers like these so that watever water ends up in the cockpit can drain out the back of the boat?

or similar, anybody got a link to a better idea or design?

this is a trailer boat, will not be permanantly in water

mikey

I assume your deck is above the waterline on this boat or you intened to raise the deck. I have theese scuppers insalled on one of my boats. The rubber wears out after a year or so and they stay open so then you need to get a new set. The other boat has 2 1/2" pvc with a screw in plug (homemade).

I don't know whether or not you should or shouldn't install scuppers in your boat, but thehermit is right and the kind you linked to do have a tendancy to stay open. I would suggest using these . I had the kind of scupper you linked to and they would just let the water flow right in the boat when there was a lot of weight in the back or in rough water. The new ones I installed let the water drain out, but prevent any water from coming back in. Do a search on iboats marine megamall for seachoice scupper and you will find them for less than boatersworld. Boatersworld just had a better picture to show you.

Like thehermit said. Make sure the sole is above the waterline first. If not you could consider making a small blige to collect water from the cockpit & pump it out. I did that on the boat I built becasue the sole is below the waterline.
