Has anyone added strips of wood to the bow of their boat or if they have the them how are they attached. Can I just screw in to them from the underside of the bow? A group of like 5 strips down the center of the bow. I've seen them on other boats and wonder how they were attached. I look for a photo and attach.

Hi woody!.Its an aluminum boat. If I screw them from the bottom they would need to be at least 3/4" so the screw has something to grab on to.

Yeah, well if that's the case then I'd use Stainless Screws and Epoxy.

You mean epoxy in the screw holes or epoxy it direct to the aluminum bow? I was thinking in the screw holes.

Hey T - How about these Finishing Washers - Washer Fasteners - Fasteners - Hardware - Tools & Hardware?at The Home Depot with sheet metal screws like these #8 x 3/4 in. Stainless Steel Oval-Head Phillips Drive Sheet Metal Screw (50-Pieces)-34952 at The Home Depot

In the right sizes, I just grabbed some examples. The oval headed screws and finishing washers, both in stainless, would have a nice look and you would install from the top secured into the AL bow cap.

I would screw from the underside up into the wood bedding the wood in epoxy. Yes, I would predrill and fill the holes with epoxy too! Or maybe I don't understand what you are wanting to do.

I used strips of composite decking material, glued to a sanded aluminum deck with PL Premium about 10 years ago. It's standing up well. More details and additional pictures in the restore thread link in my signature. - Grandad

I agree. NICE! grandad

What have (free) is this mahogany type wood from South America I got maybe 50+ pieces of it). The strips are 6 ft long by 3'' wide x 1" thick inch. I cut them down to 2" wide and planed the down to 3/4". Not sure if I'm going to use them yet or not.

The original bow had the white pleated vinyl upholstery material. So I have existing holes, to fill or use. The chome trim strips are in good shape I could just put upholstery material back on it. Or paint, but then I wouldn't be able to walk on it.
I could try to make a pulpit too and put a roller anchor up there. Anyone ever attach an anchor pulpit to there bow?

One thing I've found out here - there aren't many new ideas. Kinda like been there, somebodies done that. The difference is the novel ways of getting it done. GD - That is a nice bow treatment and anchor treatment. How thick is the composite - 3/4"? Has a hard time reading the sticker.

tpg - Mahogany would be flat nice!

Hi GA, the material that I used is really only about 1/4" thick after trimming down a U-shaped cross-section of material that was intended by the manufacturer to be used as a cover-up end cap for the raw ends of composite deck boards. I can no longer find it locally. I wish I had a couple more pieces to supplement my leftovers for gunwale step plates. The picture below shows the thickness better in a repair after I made a foolish mistake and needed to relocate my nav lights as noted in my rebuild thread. - Grandad
