Adjust outboard height?

I've got a new Nissan 9.8 4-stroke for my 12' aluminum v-hull. The manual says to mount the motor to maintain a 0.2"-1.0" gap between the hull bottom and the AV plate. When I rest the motor stern bracket on the top of the transom, it results in almost a 2" distance between these two reference points. Is this a big problem? If so, do I need to shim the area between bottom of the stern bracket and the top of the transom, so that the motor has a support surface to rest on? Or should I just clamp it tight and leave a gap there?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Adjust outboard height?

Use a block to support it.Raise to about even and test.If good raise it about 1/4 inch at a time until just before ventilation becomes a problem.Just be sure you have a good grip on the transom and it pumps water. It is possible to gain
1 to 3 mph for each inch raised.

The engine does not need to rest on the top of the transom if it is through bolted to the transom.
