Four Winns, thanks for the advice. Good news, i was able to get the engine to crank on its own. Tomorrow hopefully i can get the 260 running.

If you keep the boat, you will need a trailer for the boat. That trailer is in no way right for the boat.

Re: Adjusting boat on Trailer

So before we go writing off the trailer, there where a couple of good points made!

First, the reach is to short it can be extended, this being said the boat could be moved forward a little.

Second, check the axles and the tires to establish the total GVW that the trailer can handle, if it can handle the load your half way there.

Third we need some clearer pictures of the boat on trailer, back and sides to establish what is required to be done.

Now, the big issue is the boat and motor and drive.

Nice one Eddie,

low blow...well good news is that i was able get the engine to run for 5 seconds, needs a carb rebuild. Looks like i'm keeping her. I will try to find the total GVW for the trailer.

I also read that i can determine this by measureing the bearings?

That could be bad news if you did not have it on muffs!
Running the engine for more than maybe 5-10 seconds without water flowing can damage the Impeller (Water-Pump) in the lower unit.:eek:

Please say you had water to it! :confused:

Uncle, no muffs, and the outdrive is stuck up. i had to make sure the engine runs before deciding on what to do with the boat.

Eddie, thanks for the link.

Uncle, no muffs, and the outdrive is stuck up...

You are batting a thousand, and making me sound like the Grinch! :(

The outdrive in the UP position is known as the trailering position; Not the operating position.
In the UP/Trailering position the U-Joints in the gimbal housing will at near a 90 degree angle;
A very BAD Angle for U-Joints to be running.
It won't kill then immediately; But don't do it again. :eek:

Get the Outdrive DOWN, be sure the Motor and the Outdrive both have good Oil/Lube in them, and get it on muffs before you try to start it again. ;)

Before you attempt anything that appears to be obviously simple; run it past the guys here first.
We can save you hundred$ in self inflicted damages.:)

You're welcome!
In as much as you are a self proclaimed newbie;
I feel obligated to add what may be an obvious point to the experienced. ;)

When checking the Oil in the engine and out drive;
These are two separate items with separate oil weights.
The engine typically uses 40W motor oil and the out drive typically uses 90w gear lube.
Checking/Changing the engine oil has no effect on the out drive lube.

But I am sure you already knew this. :rolleyes: :D
