adjusting carb floats

So i finally tracked down some plastic floats for my carbs. The question is how do I adjust them. More specifically when I invert the bowl how far down should they drop??? Motor is 1980 v6 150 hp

Iv always been told the floats should be level with the carb body where bowl and body seperate.

Book says to invert the float bowl and float, and adjust the float so it protrudes 1/16" from the float chamber top (now bottom) surface.

It's the same on all of them.
