Adjusting Carb. In or Out of water?

Can I adjust my carberator out of the water with ear muffs and get away with setting the rpms a little higher so that It wont afftect me when putting load on the prop when im out boating?
Any advice will help. Thank you

You can try to set the rpm's out of the water and then check them in the water to see if you need to make an adjustment but I think it would be easiest to just do it in the water. This is based on my experience with my mercruiser set up. I don't know if OMC's are different.

For me I just attach my dwell meter which has a tack setting and play with the idle adjustment until I am in spec.

You could do that to get it close and make you final adjustments on the water.

Adjust you idle mixture with the engine at 650 to 700 rpm. After that, set your idle speed around 750 or a little less. Then when you hit the water it should be really close, if not, have your screwdriver with you for any minor adjustments needed.
Just make sure the engine is warm and the choke is off either time.
