Yea, these old motor are, well lilpigs (couldn't resist the pun) when it comes to gas :/ Gotta remember it was only a nickle, or so when they were made and a fair bit goes unburnt, which is why the test tank water can get so dirty, so 1.5 gal in 3 hrs is about right. You can also try raising the motor and/or moving the weight around in the boat to find the optimal set up too. A 6 gallon tank should last you all day with a 1-2 gal left just in case.
