Adjusting the pitch

I was out with the family and took notice that the front of the boat would not stop dragging in the water even at WOT. After adjusting the weight in the boat it still wouldn't get out. Here's where I got stupid. I have to Manually adjust the pitch by moving a bar with a cotter pin in it. First time no real problems, second time a couple ski boats making big waves got me off balance. Laing across the transom I lost the cotter pin. (yeah straight to the bottom of the lake) I started tearing through the boat for something temporary. I find it in the tackle box while tryng to get it to fitin the hole more big waves. This time not the pin but me goes in very funny in really cold water.
