adjusting the timing

I want to adjust the timing on my engine (1980 150 hp v6). I have good compression across the cylinders (120 thru 130 across the board). I have replaced/rebuilt the entire fuel system and cooling system. The engine still runs like chit. I am going to test the electrical system later this week following my manual. My flywheel doesn't have a cover over it and I was wondering if that was needed to time it using the strobe light???

Timing pointer is on the flywheel cover. Adjusting it's position is part of the link-n-sync. I suppose you could bend a paper clip and stick it under the nearest screw to accomplish the same thing.

So I can secure a paper clip to one of the screws that held the fly wheel cover? Can it be any of the screws or does it have to be a specific one??

It has to be positioned at the .462 mark with #1 piston .462" before TDC.

If a screw isn't close enough, use duct tape.:D

You really should have a flywheel cover on it anyway. Why not just get one.
