I'm on someone's computer and they don't remember the password to login to Owner(administrator) on WIN7. The y have access to other user accounts, but I can't system stuff w/o being the Admin.....

That whole mess boils down to this;
Restart the PC, hold down F8 once you enter the Windows? Boot Menu choose
Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and now type in the following:

net user root/add

localgroup Administrators root /add

net localgroup Users root /delete

The first command adds a new user called “root”, the second command adds
that user to the Administrators group and the third command removes the
user from the Users group which leaves him in the Administrators group.

After you get in, write the password on the underside of the keyboard. :D

Reading the last step and what it does, will any of the other users be deleted? There's about 3 of them that "cannot" be removed or I'm dead meat....

What - Three admin passwords or 3 plain user passwords?

That procedure adds a new admin password (root) along with the inaccessible admin password.

The command prompt will have some junk and it will end with "C:\Windows\system32>_".

"_" is the command prompt cursor.

i haven't used it in awhile but try downloading a copy of ophcrack for win7. install it to a CD and boot from the CD. follow the prompts and it should crack all passwords for you. i have not used this on win7 (told you i haven't used it in awhile) but i do know the older version i had would not work on win7 so make sure you download the right version. there are other ways if that fails

Never saw that screen. Am I in safe mode now? I think I am..... This is what I clicked on "Safe Mode with Command Prompt". If so, how do I get out of it?

Type exit and <enter> If that doesn't do it, hit and hold down the power button.

Did you get the C:\ prompt?

After selecting Safe with command prompt, it goes through a bunch of loading stuff, then the normal starting Windows screen and ends up with a dark screen with the command prompt box and C:\Windows\system32>. That's where you enter the commands.

The post above isn't formatted properly, I shouldn't anything on the web with out testing, which I have now. Fixed;

net user root /add

net localgroup Administrators root /add

net localgroup Users root /delete

That works ^^^^

And with Windows, more than one way to skin a cat - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...idden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/

Nothing went wrong, per say........... It's my mothers computer who is 3hrs away. She found her Admin login, so she now has Admin capabilities.... :pray2::facepalm:

What she needs to do now is transfer all her bookmarks from a couple 3 other Users on her computer to her Admin one. Is this possible? Me and my wife just work off the Admin user. I guess on her bookmark bar it sez something to the affect of "Import Bookmarks". Not sure if that would do it or not. I want to be there when this happens. Over the phone doesn't work. At least I got her Gmail on the bar for the Admin User. Other than that she has a clean slate. Game plan is to get the other bookmarks from the other Users and delete all Users except Admin.... :)

Edit: By the way, it's chrome. I know from computer to computer you can dump them to a flash drive. Do you do the same from User to User on the same computer. You would think there should be an easier way.....

EDIT EDIT: Looks like it can be done, but what is the "best" way to move bookmarks from multiple Users to one User????

Thanks, Gents.....
