My doctor just prescribed Advair for me. Probably won't have to be on it for more than a few months, but regardless of that, cheapest I can find locally is $285.00 per month. Anyone here have any idea where I can get it for a more reasonable price?

I would go to Advair website and see if they offer any coupons. Most drug companies do. My wife has been in he medical field for 30 years and this is what they tell thier patients Another option is the patient assistance forms that the drug companies offer to patients that cannot afford the meds. Just my thoughts. Hope this helps.

Harritwo,

Thanks. I'm aware of both of those programs but neither one is a viable option for me. I've got a lead on an online pharmacy that may take be the answer to what I'm after. Still interested in any other ideas or suggestions though.

Talk to your doctor and see if there are other options. Advair is a drug meant for long term treatment of asthma or COPD so it seems unlikely that it would only be used for a few months. Doctors frequently don't use cost as a discriminator when choosing a medication unless a patient asks. Also, its not unusual for them to have some free samples so you could ask about that too.

Thanks for your reply. As a matter of fact Advair is used for some other conditions that cause congestion of the bronchial airways such as post infectious cough (my doctor's exact words), and for periods as short as four weeks but sometimes for several months as I understand it.

In my case I have had mild emphysema from construction work for a long time. Up until now it hasn't required any treatment. This year due to the wild fires here in New Mexico I was exposed to a mild haze of smoke for several weeks which served to irritate my lungs to the point where treatment is needed to let my lungs heal from the irritation. Whether the Advair will be a long term thing or whether there is a nebulizer in my future remains to be seen.

For now I have located an online pharmacy that can supply the Advair at a more affordable price and will go with them for the time being. I have talked to the doctor (a personal friend) and there are no other options available in the U.S. and no free samples. Again, thanks for your reply.

I thought Advair was off patent? I and my children have had to use it on occasion. It does work to open the airways.

It may be off patent but as far as I can find out, still not available in the U.S. except from GlaxoSmithKline at their outrageous prices. Bummer!
