Hello all, I've got a question. I've always been told to remove the advance
Module on my motor if I was wise. It's a 1985 XR2 150 engine. Well I just recently replaced the switch boxes and noticed a wire coming from the module is frayed very badly. I was planning on taking this module off, then taking it to the local marine shop and have them re-time the engine as well as do a lync and sync since I had all the linkage loose. Would there be any problem with me removing the module and starting the engine before its timed? I need to check my wiring
For my kill switch and all my gauges,as well as fuel leaks etc. I've also read diff opinions on where to set the timing after removing the module. I would at least like a few opinions so I can compare them to what the tech at the shop
Will suggest setting it to. Thanks a bunch.

Re: Advance module

thanks a bunch. Another quick question if you dont mind..Do these motors have any sort of rev limiter? I am guessing no since the only two "modules" that were on the motor are now gone..(I also removed the oil injection and the box that went with it). The only thing left now are the switch boxes. I guess the throttle stop is pretty much it?
thanks again
