Advance timing on start up??

I have a 1996 Yamaha PRO-V 150 that has lost the advance timing on start up, makes it hard to start without it. What is the fix for this propblem?

My guess is to Check the temperature switch/sender that tells the CDI the motor is warmed up and to go back to normal timing
