advice buying a used boat

I am new to the boating world and i am getting ready to buy my first boat. i have narrowed it down to a 2002 mastercraft x10 330 hp loaded with perfect pass, tower speakers, ballast system, 250 hours in great condition. the second option is a 2006 centurion elite air warrior 315 hp with everything the mastercraft has except for the perfect pass with 110 hours. I can get the centurion for about $1000 dollars more. however i do not know if it is worth the extra money. i do know much about boats so i am hoping to find someone who knows about these two and can point out pros and cons also considering resale value. any help would be appreciated. thank you...

V-Drives tend to be pushed to the max and used hard by their owners, especially if they are hardcore riders, I would definetly go with the newer one. Dont get me wrong, I love mastercraft and I know these boats are the cat's ***, but 4 years and 140hours more is alot of hard time for a boat! If it were a cruiser my choice with be harder, but a tow boat, newer for sure!

i know the owners of both boats and both boats have been babied. also i have taken them into the local boat dealer and the checked out 100% from tower to trailer. thank you for the responce that is exactly the info i am looking for (let me know if that changes anything) . please keep the feed back coming. thanks again...

No problem, g;lad to be of help. Personnaly, for 1000$ difference I would go for the newest one. Dont get me wrong, if the MC was a 2005 and the Centurion was a 2006, then it would be a tough sell to choose, but like I said earlier, 4 years and 140 hours is significant. I know you cannot a boat to a car, but just imagine if you had the choice between a 2002 porshe or a 2006 porshe...easy decision right. Plus, centurion is a great boat, again, coming back to the 4 years, if you would have choice between MC and Moombo, then MC for sure. But 2006 Centurion winds it over 2002 MC for me!

I don't think either of these are V-drives. But the best thing would be to have a shop do a check for you. It may cost an hour labor but then you would know for sure.

In my humble opinion a few years newer is not a deal maker. I have seen boats with well over 300 hours and 15 years old that I would take over some I have seen with 100 and 5 years old. Age and hours are not the tell all. How often and how well the boat is taken care of makes the big difference.

both of these boats are v-drives and have been taken to a dealer and gone through and both where in great shape, good compression, ballasts all work, hull in great shape, trailer in great shape as well...

Who is going to be towing you -- your wife, kids, or friend and how experienced are they at towing?

If they are not that experienced and you really want to get into water sports, get the one with the perfect pass. Towing is more than just looking forward and dropping the throttle. Its and art form, and being a good skier helps!

Thus, it would be worth it to me as a beginner to have the perfect pass.

Either boat will be awesome and you are starting your boating adventure with boats way above entry level. Thus, how can you go wrong?

On the re-sale question -- first off you don't buy a boat for re-sale or for investments. Its a hole in the water in which man sinks money! That being said, as they age the Mastercraft will reach a point where its worth more.
