My recent problem me and a friend had trouble shooting electrics mad me think I need some more tools for my arsenal.

Is this multi meter I have now good and do I just need a good compatible DVA or should I shop for them both?

Theres nothing wrong with that DVM (digital volt multimeter) but you say DVA what are you specifying? a Digital Volt Amp meter? your DVM is an ampmeter up to 10 amps as it says on the rotary dial...

So a DVA would allow you to sample the ignition coil voltage?

This is very easy Walmart has a meter for $19.00 in auto.
20meg ohms
temp readings
10 amps
voltage sensing
back lit
flash light
battery check for dry cells
And it works on aa batteries
