Advice needed on decking over stern!

Do you think it will be ok to cut the seat boxes straight across in the stern of the boat or are they on an angle for another reason other than to keep the battery and cooler boxes square?
Thinking about closing in the top of the boat in the stern around the splashwell like the old wooden inboard boats were done and leave access to the bildge area as is with a curtain or a door. The stern would be closed in with a bulkhead possibly and the area around the splashwell decked over. By doing this I would gain about a foot of much needed deck area in the aft end if the boat.
Don't really use the space for seating so I thought it might look nice to deck it over! Plus it would give me a good entry and exit point when coming and going from the boat at the dock.

i think you would be fine to square it off. you will need to vent the battery area.

Re: Advice needed on decking over stern!

I know it's been awhile but just got around to working on the seat boxes. As normal I found plenty of rotten plywood. Anyway it's got to come out!
I've decided that I don't want it in there anyway.
Will decking the stern over around the splash well make up enough strength difference that the boxes won't be missed? Or will I have to rebuild them? Any thoughts appreciated! max!

Sorry, this is a little off topic. What's your plan for those wires?

The way I see it I have two choices, cut the deck and run the wires under or glass a half peice of plastic pipe above deck to run them thru. Don't really like either idea seeing how much work it was to redeck it! Probably will trip over the pipe every time I turn around. Gotta do one or the other at some point though!

I was debating the same thing when I was considering converting to a center console. I saw on here where one guy rigged a pipe under his deck, but I didn't have room for that.

Whichever you choose, you might consider removing those wire ties. You'll be kicking yourself down the road if you need to pull a new wire in there.:)

Good deal. I've been screwed so many times by cable ties while pulling network cable, I just had to say something just in case.

There's nothing quite like crawling through fiberglass insulation, sucking dust up your nose, and sweating in an attic on a GA summer tracking down a cable tie because your cable won't pull.:D

Oh! Just in case you didn't know this boat was a cuddy redone to a bowrider now to a center console.
Haven't even finished it yet and I'm already dreaming about cutting it down and putting in a big block and making a drag boat out of it.
(Man I wish!) My wallet couldn't stand it! O'well doesn't hurt to dream! Maybe someday!
