Hello again everyone,

I got such great advice the last time I posted a question here, I thought I'd ask another. The Force motor on my Bayliner has about zero compression, so I am looking into replacing it. I have a line on a Mercury 65 HP 4 cylinder motor. Everything I have research thusfar says that my boat's max HP rating is 50 HP. What are the dangers and concerns if I were to go with this setup on my boat?

Thanks!

Yes, your boat is rated for 50 HP. Too much weight and too many HP can cause structural problems up to catastrophic hull failure i.e. an already marginal transom ripping right off the boat. You may also end up going faster than the hull was designed to handle safely.

You may also get hassled by your local law enforcement depending on the laws where you boat.

With all that being said, I would be most concerned about the condition of the transom and stringers. A 50 HP Force motor is relatively light for its HP.
