Re: Advice on boat purchase

Just FYI, the Chap comes with 2 extra props and 8 Cabela's life jackets (4 Adult, 4 Kid) that's in addition to the stuff listed in the ad (Wakeboard, Tow rope, Towing Tower (Not a full tower, triangle type), two-person tube)

All that stuff is nice, but you pick a boat based on it being solid, a good motor, not having soft floors and having dry foam. If the other stuff comes with it - it is bonus.

Another thing the owner of the Chap mentioned is that there was no wood to rot, that it was all fiberglass. Anyone know if there is any truth to that or a way to research or check it, short of drilling holes.

It would be very unlikely for a 150 to not have power TnT. My esteemed college 64osby is incorrect about the location of a pump motor. It is within the bracket assembly.

I think the Chaps had wood stringers and transom, all glassed in but still wood. There are ways to check for rot without drilling holes. First, if there's any water leakin' outta' the bilge drain that would be a good indication (as long as it hasn't been raining). You can always unscrew an accessory (swim ladder bolt or something like that) on the back and check. A soft spot in the floor is a giveaway, and a hollow sounding transom will be kinda' indicting too.

EZ thanks for the compliment and the slap down. :beaten: The PT&T is different than what I have.

This is my '85 V90. Has power TILT only and the pump is outside.

How does it have power trim but not tilt? Does it not have as much range of motion? I thought if you had power trim then you'd have power tilt as well.

SW - I stated it wrong it has power tilt.

The unit will tilt the motor at idle but if / when throttling up the system will not hold against the pressure and will "release" to the down position.

It has full range of motion. If the throttle is truly eased up I can get up to about 7mph before the motor releases. If I hit it hard it will drop instantly.

I pretty sure it has as a relief valve designed in.

That's a pretty oddball setup for an '85 you've got there 64. Pre-'78 I'd understand but I thought those tilt only units went away much earlier. Even my '81 has the more modern style completely integrated into the bracket unit.

EZ - Did a little checking and came up with this. http://www.**********/parts/search/...WER TILT ASSEMBLY - WTL MODEL ONLY/parts.html

The unit doesn't show up under any parts manual for a V90. The one above is for a 65HP. Parts break down show it as made for 1984/85 motors.

It would be interesting to learn if the '85 V90 was ordered with this as an option or if the PO added it.

Oddball:eek: Well yea um:watermelon:
