Nice boat but the cost of rebuilding will most likely far exceed resale...especially if you are including a major trailer rebuild or new trailer. Anyway, if the trailer frame is ok the repair may be anything from bearing replacement to a full axle with new springs and hubs. All of those can be installed with the boat on the trailer and if new rollers are needed the boat can be jacked up and those replaced one at a time...no problem. It takes jacks and stands of some sort...wood, metal, tires, etc.

If you just want to drag it out from under the roof and don't care about the trailer, an automobile tow truck can just drag (no wheels needed) it out or up on the tilting bed for delivery somewhere else. If you have a tilting trailer the boat can be "launched" on dry land (I've done it a few times with 20' boats) and winched back up on the trailer from dry land. PM me if you have a tilt trailer and need specific instructions...but I don't visit here daily so the response could be a week or two.

The Can Do has a new home!

Yesterday a man in my area came to see the boat, after my listing her on Craig's list. He had responded within minutes of my listing. He and his 9 year old son have been watching Craig's list daily ever since this summer, looking for a project boat under $500 they could work on together.

Here's what he said last night, after he'd been to see the boat.

I hope we can come to an agreement so Emilio and I can get going on this. I showed him the pix and talked about all the work we need to do. He was enthusiastic and ready to start the whole process. I hope to use this as an opportunity to teach him some of the woodworking and mechanical skills my grandfather passed on to me.

I will call your mom on Wednesday after I talk it over with my wife. She has been very supportive in this whole quest for the perfect project.

I was serious about taking your mom out on the boat after we get it going too. There will be a nice bench seat in the back for the both of you to sit.

He is estimating to put $200 into what is needed to get it moved out of the boat shed, and gave my mom $200. He knows it is a small amount, given the value he and his family will get from having it, but I cannot put a price on the respect and goodwill he has already shown the boat and my 88 year old mom, and what he intends to do with it. More importantly, my dad would have loved his boat going to a father who would be working on it this way with his son. The buyer grew up in the Seattle area with boats, and did commercial fishing in his school years. It was clear from the moment he began to test and assess the boat and its features, that he know what he was doing -- even for me who knows so little.

Thank you so much to those of you who responded to my request for advice. And for the kind thoughts, CheapboatKev. All of your responses helped me believe that Can Do was of value for the right person... and he has shown up!

Sounds like you found the perfect buyer! Its hard to say goodbye to boats that have so many memories associated with them, but I think the idea of your Dad's boat creating memories for another generation would have pleased him. Some day, that young boy will catch a fish out of "Can Do" and your Dad will be smiling when he does!

Give the buyer this web site info and have him post a project thread. We would love to see how Can Do turns out.

Many thanks for the good wishes and the idea to have the buyer post the work he and his son do! I'll pass on the information.

Hello, we are the new owners of this boat. Check out the resto. here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=286469

Got this baby out of the shed using an old hub from a 65 chevy pickup. Had to grind down the spindle to make it fit. Not too bad. The trailer was very rusted. I wasn't sure it would make it home 30 miles away. But it did. I didn't follow the tow truck too closely!
