Hi, I am new to these forums and I must say how impressed I am with the amount of knowledge of the subscribers, I wonder if you can help me with my query.
I have a Johnson which I believe to be a 50hp, the power head and leg are Johnson but the transom bracket is an Evinrude and has the following numbers, Model:559756, Serial:Boo7690. It is electric start and electric shift.
Anyone got an idea of year and model please.

Re: Advice.

Many thanks for that info, am I right in assuming the Johnson equivalent would be a 1979 55hp, it's important be cause I need a wiring diagram, is there a model name or number would you know?

The difference between the two would be the color of the paint. The Johnson would have the model number of 55E79 or 55EL79, depending on whether it was a short or long shaft model.

Distance between the underside of the transom bracket (part that sits upon transom) to the cavitation plate (plate just above propeller) determines engine length as follows:

Approximately 15" = Short shaft

Approximately 20" = Long shaft

Re: Advice.

Thanks, great info but, I have another question, I looked at the hood carefully and I found 50 Johnson under the paint work.
Question, would a transom bracket off a 55hp Evinrude fit a 50hp Johnson?
