I just purchased a 1975 15hp Evinrude today from Michigan. I live in Oklahoma so it won't be shipped 'til next week. This was a fresh water engine. It had been in storage a few years, but because the owner to very good care of it, it started on the 3rd pull cold, first pull afterwards. He didn't even replace the existing spark plugs. The motor runs, throttles and idels perfectly, shifts perfectly too. I'm wondering what I should do when I get it to insure that it continues to operate perfectly. What type of plugs/gap and what type of fuel mixture. Any other recommendatons are welcome including winterizing advise.
Thanks!

WagonCreek,
Fuel/Oil mix is 50:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil.
Spark plugs are Champion UL81C gapped at .030" (Check your model number, many changes were made during the '70s).
I suggest you decarb the engine before replacing the plugs - check out roscoe's post in the FAQ forum.
You will have to replace the water pump impeller ASAP. It must be changed every season or two, notwithstanding use. Actually, especially if it hasn't been used.
There's good information on winterization in the FAQ forum under the heading WINTERIZATION.

FAQ Forum

You can get an OMC shop manual from eBay. I just got one for my 1975 9.9. The manual is for a 1976 but the motors are the same. Cost me $20.00 including shipping.
