Hello
I am changing the drive oil for the first time .
the drive is a 1988 Alpha One

Trying to decide what gear lube to buy?

I looked at 1 quart of Penzoil 80w90 for $4 a quart at my local autoparts store versus quicksilver high performance gear lube for $10
a quart at my local marine store?

just use premium stuff. its well worth geting marine premium lube. as it takes on water better.. that marine lube will probably run at 10% water, where as the auto lube would of already failed. everyone has thier own brand.

the HP gear lube is very good, in fact its all I use on V6 mercs and all mercruiser stuff. I also use it in my personal 115OMC and 115 yamaha and my old 120 omc.
if I dont use that I use the volvo synthetic.
but for yours yao wont go wrong with the HP.

Yep rodbolt is right.Use what Merc reccomends and you can't go wrong.Play around and save $6 if you want, but if you change twice a year you save $12.If you or Pennzoil happen to be wrong .... not too many parts in that drive sell for $12 (or under for that matter)
