Recently purchased a boat that had little used in it's lifetime, since 1990. I activated the aerator pumps. They're running, but not pumping well and screeching loudly. Are they serviceable or should I just replace them? They are Mayfair Basspirator's, model #2460, straight shaft.

Don't know if those can be rebuilt. May just need cleaning. Here's a link or two with some pumps.

web page

Pump

Mayfair pumps generally have removable cartridges for easy claning but I do not know if you can replace yours in particular but it's not too expensive to replace the entire unit. You could try removing the cartridge if possible on the one you have to see if there is anything clogging the unit.
If you go to this site and enter "mayfair bilge" in the search and you will see replacement cartridges.
http://www.cabelas.com/
