Aerosol or mix for decarb?

I see in the FAQ section, the method is mixing the stuff with gas and oil in a small tank.<br />Other posts describe spraying directly into the carbs.<br />Does one work any better than the other?<br /><br />Thanks for the wealth of info on this site<br /><br />Dave

Depends what you are trying to accomplish.<br /><br />If you are trying to keep the fuel system clean, mix in the gas.<br /><br />If you are trying to decarb the engine, spray into carb and sparkplug holes.<br /><br />This procedure is pretty much what the directions say on the can and their website:<br /><br /> http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000016 <br /><br />But, if you have a dirty gunky plugged up carb, you need to overhaul it.

The spray will work best to decarb right away. Adding it to the main tank occasionally is a good preventative to carbon build-up in the future. I don't know how well mixing it in a concentrated form in a small tank would work, as this is not the way I do it, but it should work pretty well if you let it sit long enough.

Thanks<br />I guess I'll go with the direct squirt method.<br />I'm not sure if I have a carbon build up problem or not. Nothing's wrong with the motor, just preventive maintenance.<br /><br />Dave

You will know if you have a carbon problem when you do it. There won't be a bug alive for blocks...

Sorry Dave F, but i wouldn't do it that way. There are many things "wrong", inaccurate, dangerous, and unneeded, in that thread. And it goes against the motor manufacturers and Seafoam's recommendations.<br /><br />Plus, its a lot more work, and takes way too long.

I mix it about double the recommended rate in a gallon of as and run the engine on that while I spray it in the carbs. Neighbors think I'm disposing of old tires in the oven...

Say Roscoe,<br />Maybe the advise in the FAQ section should be changed?<br />At least maybe offer both methods and let the reader decide?<br />I'm still learning here and I don't want to screw anything up. I guess if all else fails...read the directions(on the can).

Dave A, I agree with you on the spray method.<br /><br />I was disagreeing with Dave F.<br /><br />Personally, I think the "concentrate in a separate tank" method should not be listed on the FAQ page.<br />It was not posted there by the author, but by a member that found it on another webpage. I don't know if he ever used that method. I don't know anyone that has used that method.

I picked up the formula on Flordia Sportsman board.<br />To answer your question, YES, I have used it several times and YES it does work!<br />What more can I say. Just do whatever you feel comfortable with. This is about as simple as it gets if you have an extra small tank and the required fittings.
