Ok I made the mistake of hammering on the end of the eyelet of the sterring shaft to loosen it up. I dont know if I mushroomed it because I had the other end disconnected on the starboard side. Anyway, I have not given up yet trying to get it out but I am ready to purchase a new one. I dont want to order the wrond one though Because I am leaving in a week to go camping. Here is a picture. can anyone tell me what the right application would be!

Why do you need an application? You have the model and size right there. Morse E300620 cable 168 inches long

The right application would be for a boat needing a morse cable 14 ft. long.

Did'nt Teleflex buy Morse out? If you buy any cable other than a Morse make sure that it will fit your Helm. I just replaced a Morse system on my boat with a 4.2 Teleflex system as the Morse helm was not compatible with other cables.

Just call Teleflex customer service (Google for their ph). They are great and will tell you exactly what you need. Then you can order the parts off any web site.

Thanks I called Teleflex and they helped me just as you said. Now I have the daunting job of removing the frozen steering cable from the tilet tube. After I have soaked and hammerd on it to no avail so far. I am just going to remove the motor, cut the cable, and then remove the tilt tube and bang it out from there!!!

Re: Afraid to order wrong steering cable...HELP!!!

Ok the job is all done. At first I disagreed with everyone who said "dont mess with it just buy a new one" and those who said "It's not worth the effort trying to salvage the old one." I like to save money and I also like challenges so I thought I could save it. Nope!!! There was no way I was going to get the old cable out of the tilt tube without breaking something else in the process. After I removed the tilt tube I had to get a slightly larger pipe that it would fit into and then insert a 10mm deep socket to bang it out of the tilt tube. Once that was done all went real smooth putting the new one in. I used a cherry picker to remove the engine to line it up easier. One problem I did have was the shocks on the tilt machanism made it difficult to re align the holes for the tilt tube. What I did was snap a piece off of an old broom handle and shave it down to the right size to line it back up. All is well now!
