After driving my V8 bayliner, I cant een have fun in my 4 banger

Its a shame I had to take the bayliner out first, but it was the first one fixed. With my bayliner topping out at 56MPH, I can;t even enjoy my old 4 banger which the guy says tops at 32. I will hook gps to both and see what the true speeds are but the bayliner planes out in literally 3 seconds.

I should have never bought a V8 as my first boat. Now what will I have to upgrade to?

assuming fuel prices go through the roof again. you may be happy to have the option of only feeding 4 instead of 8... time will tell...
enjoy the option of different eras of technology... boating ain't always about faster.... ;)

buy a convertible and have the top down at 80-100 mph, whatever your interstate allows.

Read the Bayliner reviews in the Bayliner owners section and you will see that they have shed the low quality image they once had. The V-8's are great boats.

Yep, the V8 doesn;t sip gas, thats for sure. Even when cruising slower. My dads 17 footer 120HP would pull skiers all day on one tank or less.

Did you get the 4 banger over heat issue fixed now ?
That 4 banger is pushing a helluva boat, hope shes not wet those boats get HEAVY.

Warm enough to boat down there ? It's freezing here, literally.

And don't forget, with a decent V8 your wallet is the limit on power output. People are making all the power in the world with Small Block Chevy engines, then you still have the big block and also forced induction, you'll be fine. ;)
Good luckies.

The overheating problem is kinda fixed on my sea ray. I had yet another impeller put in and it now has flow, the riser is warm enough I can keep my hand on it for a long time, and the exhaust manifold is a little uncomfortable but still not roasting. The block and head are pretty hot for 140, so I am going to try yet another t-stat and yank the engine water pump for an inspection.

I have boats that run over 100mph, but I'm excited about using my new Carolina Skiff JV13 this week :)
It's not about speed for me; I'm happy as long as I'm on the water.

Ha ha that's funny. I will stear clear of riding in anyone's v8 equiped boat. I know as soon as I do, I will realize how slow my boat really is. Of course this will have to happen next season since we have a few inches of snow here now. I will be curious what 56mph on the speedo translates to on your GPS. My speedo shows about 3mph faster at wot.

I'd rather get someplace cheap and slow than be broke and quick most any day of the week. If i need the speed, I'll go out with the friend's boat. I used 18 gallons of gas total this season.

It's not the top speed for me, it's the power getting out of the hole that justifies the V8 for me. Especially when towing a slolam skier, the boat just gets up and goes so much better.

All boats are a compromise. You can always go bigger or faster.

You're right about that!

When you get tired of that wimpy small block V8, you can move up to a big block. Find out how much fun REAL torque is!

When that gets boring, go to the twins, but at least 1075HP each:

After that, you can work your way up to the supercharged V12's:

When they get old, go to the twin 1850HP turbines:

And all that is stuff you can just buy off-the-shelf. Once you're tired of that and REALLY want to get adventuresome, you'll be on your own. I guess you'll have to go to rocket power then! Maybe we'll see your name in the magazines .......

If you really want something to tinker with, you could pick up one of these 8-motored Crompton inflatables, built in England. Supposedly built to run drugs, they burn about 240 gallons/hour, hold almost 4000 gallons of gas, and do about 70 MPH empty. Makes a V8 seem like an economy motor by comparison.
