after performing a compression check. The engine did overheated and you now do i have a head gasket leak ?

(which may allow water into the combustion chamber.)

its a new impeller and pump on a 86 30HP johnson..
water pumps out steady stream for first cpl minutes then goes to a broken up stream to eventualy just puffs of smoke ...

can this be my problem ... ??

and how would u repair a head gasket leak .??

thank you .....

If all compression is good ( no more than 10% difft) what do your plugs look like ? If the water is getting in the head your plugs will look new. As for repair of the head gasket ( buy a manual ) replace gasket.

Performing a compression check ....

Replace head gasket and do a compression check after. Water is definitely entering cylinder and building up steam and extra heat. Relace plugs also if they are old. Good Luck!

charlie, don't like what i see in headgasket 005, 006.,009, 011. what is the silver showing up a piece of ring> , 011 also may be a cracked piston. really can't tell. let's get some other opinions. edit your heading and add (pics) to it. will get more attention.

That silver that you see, tashasdaddy, is the edge of the intake port.

Take a "good" straight edge and check the head and the cylinder deck for flatness before you install the new gasket.

That first headgasket picture sure looks like a blowout in the middle to me. That discoloring would indicate the gasket lifted up off the gasket surface.

Make sure to use a torque wrench for re-installing the heads and follow the shop manual tightening sequence.

Decarb is in order. I lightened your photos and thought things looked good.

Consider thoroughly cleaning the bolt holes before returning the bolts. They tend to collect junk over the years to the point that the bolt bottoms before it should, giving you a false torque reading.

I don't know quite what your asking. But,if your telltale ,squirter that shows your pumping begins to blow steam, your circulation is got a problem.Your passages around the head SEEM ok.Is your thermostat OK?or the passages behind the exhust plate on the port side might be plugged up.It could also mean your impeller is sucking air, have you only run the engine on a hose,or in water,if it is sucking air, that problem often goes away if the engine is run in water
