Re: After warm up, stumble and stall under load
My 96 4.3L Mercruiser will stumble and stall after warm up. It only does it while in gear moving, if i stop put it in neutral and rev it up it won't stumble at all. My mechanic installed a aftermarket inline fuel pump and now theres a strong fuel smell even when the boat is moving at high speeds. It seems like it's getting too much fuel. When it stalls it always starts back up with no problems.
I know this might sound like a long shot - but maybe not. I just diagnosed a long-running fuel problem, having replace fuel lines, vent lines, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel water separator unit, and rebult the carb. Know what it was - trash in the bottom of the tank clogging the pickup tube screen.
I would ride WOT for a few minutes each time before it happened. Start right up afterwards.
I just took it our today and let the stumbling happen. Then I swithed over and ran off a 2.5 gal external tank - just zip-tied a cloth over the fuel line and taped it into the portable tank.
Now I will remove the tank and see if I can rinse it out with some solvent.
Good luck.
