Aftermarket parts quality?

I am shopping for a piston and rings for my 88 Force 125. I called the Marina a few miles down the road, and asked about price and availability. They quoted me more than double for everything involved compared to the prices here on Iboats. I asked about the brand names, and he said they refuse to use Sierra internal engine parts, ( in the shop) and didn't recommend them.
My question to you all is, Would I regret using aftermarket pistons and rings?
I'm not cruising offshore or anything like that, and I'm just replacing the one in the bad cylinder. I have a used engine; I'm not blueprinting and polishing, I just wanna get a few years out of it.
Any thoughts on this? Any experiences?

In search type outboard overstock parts and there a few different stores with great deals! I've been meaning to share this with everyone but I forgot about it. Not sure about aftermarket brands but they should be fine. Are you looking for standard pistons or oversized?

There is nothing wrong with Sierra parts and pistons. For every brand you will find someone who swears that that brand is crap and will not use their parts.

I prefer to use Wiseco pistons. They are forged which makes them stronger than Sierra or OEM cast pistons but the real reason I use them is because i like their look and they are WAY easier to assemble. I also prefer the circlip method of retaining the wrist pin.

If you were running the engine hard as in competition bass fishing or racing I would say get the forged piston. For everyday use, cast will be fine.
