Searched the forums for hours, see lots of people have added the CMC, but all console steer. I am thinking of adding a CMC to my 30 Merc, but I'm tiller steer. I know it can be done, but just want to know how well its working for those that have tiller steers. Does the setback affect your reach to operate that much, or do you really even notice.

Side note for those that recomend used factory T&T. I would love to go that option, but it wasn't an option for my exact motor at the time of purchase. Its a 2007, 30HP, 2 stroke. T&T was offered on the 4 stroke, but that was couple extra grand, that wasn't in the budget, and still isn't

The set back is roughly 6'' so it may make it a bit of a reach so oyu would probly need an extension.

I have a CMC on my boat, console steer, and only have good things to say about them, they are absolutely bullit proof.

I do have an aftermarket TNT bought outta Cabela's. It's by Panther Marine, but was engineered for 35 hp and below Johnson/Evinrude. They said NO modifications, but I had to grind some relief to get it to work on my '99 Johnson 35. Having said that, I love it. Works well. Got a separate relay with a switch and about 20' of wire on it for the electric motor for the ram. Maybe they have something for your Merc?

I've heard of it and have a friend that did it on a 25 Merc. Aftermarket jackplate with 6" setback. In the boat you had to slide the seat to the side to be able to turn the motor the full range or the tiller would hit the back of the seat, He mounted the toggle switch on the tiller handle within reach of his thumb, practiced with it so he could operate it without having to turn around and look at it. With the setback it actually put the motor at a better, more comfortable operating range. He runs it all the time and trims it at WOT, with no problems. Can be done with a little creativity, and works great.
