It's the same thread I started before, but now I have a more specific question. On my 240 Blue, even on maximum gain, I CANNOT see my plastic worm falling to the bottom. Any reason for this? No matter what combo of frequencies I use, same result.

Water
In the 200 Khz mode you have a 10 degree transducer. If you are fishing 30 feet deep and you drop you lure straight down on either side of boat near the transom your lure will never be in the cone. A plastic worm is not going to give you a very strong return. Instead while stopped use a 8 oz ball and drop it straight down next to your transducer on the stearn. You should be able to see this. If you are useing zoom then your weight needs to be near bottom right under the transducer. Now that you can see your ball bounce it off the bottom and move it around to see how big an area you can see it in. With this knoledge you can try some lure, I am not sure you will be able to see a plastic worm. Worm may not reflect sound any more than water. For sure to see the worm you will have to have the sensitivy turned way up.

Once you get the feel for the 200 Khz then try the 50 Khz. The 50 Khz will have a wider cone angle of 40 degrees. This means if drop your weight off the side of th boat at the stern in 30 or more feet of water you should be able to see it.

In the 50 khz mode most of the time downrigger ball off the stern of the boat will be able to be seen.

Your 200 knz transducer has a 10 degree cone angle. So at 30 it will cover 5 feet on the bottom, at the top is is as wide as your tranducer. At 60 feet it will cover 10 feet, at 15 feet it will cover 2.5 feet.

Your 50 khz transducer has 40 degrees cone angle. So at 15 feet it will cover 10 feet at 30 feet it will cover 20 feet and at 60 feet it will cover 40 feet.

Good Luck.

Thanks. I had it on dual, and dropped the worm to the bottom right under the transducer in 23 feet of water. Saw absolutly nothing. Thats why I got frustrated. I figured I would see something, but I guess not. Maybe I can try the anchor next time! LOL

I really do not know if you can see a plastic worm on a fish finder. Try a Jig or spinner bait.

Boatist, I'll do that. Spring is coming up and the white spinnerbait is becoming red hot on Toledo Bend.

This is one of the situations where a flasher outshines a graph.

Well, it has a flasher function. I may use it and see if it changes anything.
