Re: age of motor

The engine is a 1965 18hp Evinrude. Water should shoot out the exhaust relief hole that exists halfway down the exhaust housing (housing between the powerhead and lower unit).

thank you very much sir. the hole may be plugged by insects or mud.the guy next door told me the water pump only worked in forward and not in reverse. does that make sense?

No that does not make sense. The water pump is on the driveshaft. If the engine is turning, the pump is supposed to be pumping. In F-N-R.

Re: age of motor

Apparently the water pump is only working in forward due to the fact that the propeller is helping to force water into the pickup area.

This indicates that the water pump assembly (in its entirety, a complete kit) should be installed.
