I have recived an evinrude sportwin the little brass plate states N 4644. Could this be the model and serial number and if it is could someone tell me the year and horse. The whole lower unit turns around with out moving the powerhead. how are you to lock it in place or is this how it goes in reverse?

Model N was built in 1923-28. It is 2.5hp I've never seen an N model but the gearcase on my 1918 swings around like that for reverse.

You need to go to the Antique Outboard Motor Club's website, www.aomci.org. There are people over there that know about such things.
