Hi all. I have a Four rivers large layout boat. see www.fourriverslayoutboats.com

Anyway, I have a short shaft 5 hp Merc on it. The anti ventilation plate sit at least 5-6 inches below the boat. Stears fine but the nose of the boat wants to come up too much. Is this why? the plate being to low.

Any ideas on some inexpensive ways to raise the motor. I see jack plates but they are way to expensive

Thanks for the help

Joe

My first guess on the lifting is that a 5hp is a lot bigger than the manufacturer intended you to put (the sites says trolling-2hp). However I'm a firm believer in overpowering your hull and on a small fiberglass hull like this building up the motor mount area of the transom 2 or three inches is a small project. Some fiberglass, a couple sturdy boards and an afternoon, total cost maybe $15.

I had a 3.3 hp on it at one time...Did the same thing. It even does it when running slower
