Re: Ahh the feeling of acomplishment

Mark I got the boat last August 2003. I know it was a fixer upper as I paid $995. I towed it 1400 miles to my home.
I have rewired/lighted trailer replace both wheels/tire due to rot. Done at Dealer and was 100 dollars 12" tire wheel and they greased bearing/replace 1 before I left!
Replace the ball socket as trailer was laid on the ground in Minnesota and was rusted.
Replaced the winch and strap as rope was all in tatters.
Replace the jack in front as it lost the handle on the way home. :)
Took it out to a Putt-Putt lake, it floated and the motor turned over to push boat. Small water leak in front where boats get beached- possibly source of water in bilge and rot of floor!
Broke the Tilt/trim switch off as I was going fast then stopped due to Ranger watching me.
Dragged skeg about 50 yards before I had to put a key in switch to get the motor up for tow home.
Fixed Switch.
Took it to a bigger lake to see what it could do and to test transom/stringers. Transom is solid and so were stringers just the floor in front and over bilge were bad. So was the only frame.
The Boat motor seemed in great shape for its age and probable use.
Fogged motor last October never run since.
Will need to repair water pump and thermostat. I have parts but not put in yet as it just sits.
Got a new Prop and it has not pushed boat yet either!
Will rebuild all 3 carbs and install the smaller jets as I boat at 4200 Ft to 7000 ft.
Well maybe next summer!!!!
Have to fiberglass the floor in.
It was glued with milled glass mixed to P-butter consistancy and laid on in crack between hull and floor.
10 oz cup milled fiber to 9oz epoxy. Like flour
Still have to install seat bases.
Install foam under bases.
Get a battery Tie down mecanism going.
Redo all side coushions.
Install some instruments.
Fix leak in front.
Possibly paint boat.
Replace striping.
Fix electrics such as horn and lights.
Replace bilge pump as I just cut and tossed the old one.
Etc.

Looks like it's going to be a really nice boat when all is said and done. You're doing a lot of the same work I'll have to do. I'm copying you, so do it right or we'll both be swimmin for shore!

It's like making sausage isn't it? Ugly to watch but it's great when it's done! Nice work.

Realgun,

Are you working on the boat in your front yard? Or are you able to get it around back? Looks like a tight fit between houses.

PS try not to spend too much time cutting the grass..... :)

Re: Ahh the feeling of acomplishment

Actually yes the boat is in the front yard. What is grass? You must mean the 1000 sq ft in the back yard on a auto sprinkler system! Actaully there is 15 feet between houses better than most places here. And the boat is angled and you can hardly see it unless you are in front of the house.
I usually move boat to garage when the wifes at work to fix boat. But when grinding it is best in the yard as the dust goes everywhere.
New mexico is a dry place but we do have a few god lakes. To bad they ae over a 100 miles away at least.

Re: Ahh the feeling of acomplishment

I envy the landscaping in NM, AZ and TX. Always liked that look and you really can't do it up in the north.

Hope the lakes are not crowded like they are here. I'm going to PA next spring and check out Lake Wallenpaupack. It's over 5000 acres, so hopefully it will not be too busy.

See ya,
Mark.

Re: Ahh the feeling of acomplishment

Wasn't there once a rule about how close people can crowd the waterfront? I understand it being crowded when you fish, but in Washington, you can't even get to 90% of the lakes at all. They're housed all the way around with a "community only" boat ramp and lake access. I'm not a big lake fan anyway, and thank God for that.
