Air cooled ted williams solid state ignition impeller change question.

Greetings everyone. I am replacing the impeller in an 1973 (I think) air cooled ted williams solid state ignition outboard. I ordered an eska part, and it seems to match. I am new to outboard motors and am wondering if the impeller is supposed to fit so snugly into the water pump housing.

This is my first impeller job, and will be moving on to my evinrude super fastwin to do the same job most likely. Does it need a bit of lube in there?

The impellor is usually set in with the vanes squashed in one side and extended further on the opposite side. It is a displacement type pump and therefore the impellor sits off center for that reason. So yes it does fit fairly tight so it can pull water in and force it out to cool the engine and/or exhaust section. Without seeing a picture, I am assuming it is the proper one. :noidea:

Thanks for the replies fellas. I've been out of town camping. The one I ordered was an eska impeller. It does seem a hair bigger then the other one, but fits perfectly on the drive shaft.

The only thing that is baffling me now is that the prop gets harder to turn as I crank down the nuts on the impeller housing. There is no gasket there so I assume you have to crank it down pretty good. I'm a bit of a newb.

I normally put a little vaseline in the housing and it will be a little firmer but dont over tighten or you will snap a bolt and then your screwed
