Do you know if is normal for all Force motors to not have an air filter or even a noise reducer or damper in front of the carb and is there any kit available to install on those ? Mine is a Force - 75 HP - 1998<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Mario
Smokey, outboard motors do not require an air filter for safe operation due to the fact that they are not run in dirty enviroments. The only thing required is a flame arrestor.
Well this is great Kenny, but what is a flame arrestor - in what is consist ?, I know for dust there is none on the water, I am more concern for reducing the noise from the carb as you apply full throttle !!<br /><br />Thanks !<br /><br />Mario
Well Smoky, all a flame arrestor is is a device that will not allow a back-fire out of the engine. Basically it is just a cover over the carbs. As far as reducing the noise emmitted out of the carbs, there is little to do other than adding a piece of sound deadning material (available at any good marine store) to the engine cover. This will only reduce the sound a little. For the most part, engine noise thru the carbs is one of the drawbacks to an outboard motor.
I've never seen an outboard motor with an air filter and I've seen 1000's of motors and worked on a bunch. By the way, OB's don't use flame arrestors (only I/O's and IB's which are gas powered).
Your 1998 should have a dark blue cover over the carbs that curves around to the back of the motor with the opening facing the back of the motor. If this is not in place you might get more noise from the carbs than normal.
A 98 75HP doesnt come with a silencer. If the noise is too much, order part# F511708-3 and it may help some. Force motors are naturally "intake noisy".<br /><br />
