Air in fuel line

I have a 2001 Evinrude 90 hp. fuel injected engine. Today it started out running good but after about 10 minutes it started running real rough and shut off. After checking different things I checked the small bleeder valve in the gas line. When I pressed the valve it spewed gas and air with fairly good pressure. My question is would the air in the line cause this problem and what can I do to correct it.

Air in the fuel line causes a number of issues with proper operation of the motor. I would recommend you check the fuel line fittings and see where the air is getting into the fuel line.

I assume then it would have to be between the water separator and the fuel pump and including the fuel pump. Is that right?

Gee, I would think anywhere along the fuel line where there is a fitting could leak air. So, fuel tank pickup - to anti-siphon valve, input of water separator, water separator seal itself, either side of primer bulb (if you have one), and any engine fittings.

I think I may have found it, I found a hose clamp that was completely loose at the gas tank. I really appreciate the help on this.
