Air Trapped in Outdrive...

What happens with the pocket of air that gets trapped in the top of an outdrive.?
We pump in the gear lube from below, and once full, reinstall the upper vent plug.
Then we fill up the gear lube monitor reservoir, which traps that air in the outdrive.
Does that air eventually work its way out through the reservoir, or does it stay in there.?
In the old days (before remote lube monitor reservoirs), the air was always in there.

Yes there is some air and how much depends on how the drive was refilled.
On the boat, off the boat and angle. It also takes a little time for bubbles to work it's way out

There will be some air in top of the outdrive which Is no issue when the drive is turning the lube will get splashed everywhere.

i pump from bottom of drive until it starts to show level in the reservoir. Then top it off from the bottle. Usually it will drop a tad after a use or two assume air is working its way up. Once toped seems to stay level for the season

^ Does that mean you don't remove the upper vent plug during the fill.?
That seems like it would certainly simplify the whole process...
