I flew a trip over the Midwest this afternoon. It was clear over Lake of the Ozarks and our route took us right over it at 34,000'. It seemed that every available inch of shoreline of that big lake had a boat slip or marina attached to it. Miles and miles of boat slips. I can't imagine what a boating madhouse that place must be on a holiday weekend.

Boating in my life began there in 1971. 1 week a year vacation with family, and there were a lot of them then but more open shoreline than not back then.

I know guys who won't take 30 foot boats out on holiday weekends.

I'll be down there again this year for a week and will be using a relative's 21 foot Cobalt from Tuesday - Friday, then I will be exploring the land on the weekend. I would want to be out there on a non-holiday weekend in a 21 footer, much less a holiday weekend.

It's not just the sheer number of boats down there, it's the number of boats blazing by at 80+ MPH along with all the 40+ foot cruisers who "plow" across the lake.

I like a secluded water get-away myself. I can't imagine the Ozarks now, but loved it 40 years ago.......anyone ever heard of Klotzey's Oar House?

We really like going to the Ozarks. Usually make it a couple times per year. With the family (and 20 ft. boat), we go during the week - arive Sunday and head out on Thursday. Always a good time and don't have a problem getting around anywhere. We also go down after labor day. Off peak rates, still good weather, and NO ONE on the lake.

I have family that live on the Lake of the Ozarks. We visit them every other weekend in the summer. It's true, the waters have gotten really rough over the years and my Dad had to sell his 22' Chris Craft and buy a 30 footer just to be able to enjoy a ride on the weekends. On the other hand, it is a fun lake to cruise with lots of bars and restaurants as well as party coves. My favorite thing to do there is fishing. However, fishing is only an option during the week or early morning on the weekends. Early spring and fall are great!

Once we rented a pontoon on the lake of the ozarks, didn't think you could sink one. We crossed the main channel across from party cove. Water actually came over the deck, my hat got soaked the wave was so big. I won't go back. Bought a place on Truman lake, the lake above Lake of Ozarks. Mostly pontoons and bass boats, and tubers. A real difference. It's a great lake.
