Al honeycomb for deck?

What do ya'all think about using something like this to re-deck a fresh water boat?

Not looking at these exact panels. Just grabbed them as an example.
Any you would suggest.

Looking to redeck my '85 bayliner (ya I know they were crap but it's an AZ boat in decent shape always trailered) that I got for $1500 6 years ago.

Not for a fiberglass boat, how do you plan to tab them into the sides of the hull?

IIRC, Ondrvr's boat is aluminum, not glass..

you could use nida core board. its a fiberglass honeycomb. only about 5 x the cost of a piece of wood.

however as pointed out, not on a glass boat.

also, if your deck is bad on your mid 80's bayliner, the transom and stringers have long since rotted as well.

I'd think they'd actually be too rigid to use in a fiberglass hull. The boat would end up flexing around the deck, causing lots of cracks.
I once cut the deck out of a 1965 Mark Twain only to find the wood stringers had long since disappeared, leaving behind hollow fiberglass forms. I'm willing to bet you find the same type of situation.

Transom is still solid. Deck in front of doghouse is shot. As for the stringers, we will see.

Malibu used to use an aluminum honeycomb for the big access panel behind the engine on direct drive boats. Breaks down over time and bends. No idea if this is similar stuff

I would test drill your transom, specifically near the drain plug. if it is good, go out and buy a lottery ticket if you truely only have a soft deck.... I mean seriously go out and buy a lottery ticket. you would probably be the only soft deck with a solid transom that has been on the restoration forum.
